Many of my quilting friends own Featherweight Singer sewing machines, and love them to bits.

Betsy
It’s Saturday night and I’m here in my basement
With my favourite friend, all weathered and worn
And I take care of her, she’s the best friend I have.
An old sewing machine, and she works like a charm.

We’ve been together for many a year
I brought her home from a farm auction sale
Just a little polish and a new belt was needed
To get her back into good order again.

She’s a featherweight Singer, made in the 50’s,
Her name is Betsy, and she’s the same age as me.
There’s a small little scroll on the top of her there
A nice golden decal that I oversee

The thread take up lever is slightly curved upward,
She’s smiling at me as it moves up and down.
The front handwheel has a little round knob
That you can turn to make it go ‘round.

I know that she’s old, and only makes one stitch
It’s a straight line , but that’s all I need
Cause I sew in straight lines, all of the time
A perfect stitch , and at the right speed .

It’s Saturday night, you might think I’d prefer
To watch old some shows on the tv upstairs
But there’s something so comforting when Betsy is humming
I know that a new quilt soon will be here.

She’s a featherweight Singer, made in the 50’s,
Her name is Betsy, and she’s the same age as me.
I'm ready to sew and make a new quilt
